Zephyrus
During a three-year period with owner Robert McNeil,
Bertrand was Project Manager and Skipper for two Zephyrus
ocean racing maxis. The 75-foot Zephyrus
IV shattered the Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro
Race record in 2000 by almost two days. Later the
same year, she broke the record for Mediterranean’s
600-mile Middle Sea Race which starts and finishes
in Malta. Bertrand played a lead role in the conception,
building, outfitting and campaigning of Zephyrus
V, a water-ballasted, new look maxi that
became the genesis for a new class of 86-foot,
canting keel
super maxis. Within a year, Zephyrus
V logged three first-to-finish victories
and broke the long-standing 32-year-old record
for the
classic 600-mile Pineapple Cup passage race from
Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Montego Bay, Jamaica. |
